Share a Cuppa
‘Share a Cuppa’ for Childhood Cancer Research
‘Share a Cuppa’ was held on Thursday 25th September at the Surf Lifesaving Club at Black Head.
I think that all who came had a pleasant and delicious morning. It was a great success both financially and as a community project. All together we raised just on $5,000.00 to be sent to Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Lions Australia has become has one of Australia’s most supportive donors to childhood cancer research. The Foundation sends money donated to the highest impacting scientific and clinical research available in Australia.
As we had not had a Share a Cuppa for 3 years, there were many obstacles to sort through. I would firstly like to thank my friend and former Lion, Helen Bauert who has been my helping hand and sounding board for the last couple of months, and our long, suffering husbands. To this I would like to thank all Lions who helped out setting up, and on the day.
There were many jobs to achieve :- collecting chairs and tables, setting up the club the day before, setting up the kitchen, cooking delicious cakes and slices, selling raffle tickets (some sold a great many), helping on the day by selling tickets at the door, raffle tickets, the Op Shop stall, preparing and serving food and then the unpleasant job of cleaning up, washing and packing it all away.
Thank you to Faye for her very enlightening and informative talk. I think I now know how to say ‘No’ and get away with it. Again, thank you to everyone who gave of their time to help. It was a great group effort. This was a huge learning experience that we can gather information from and build on for next time. I would also like to thank the many local businesses and some of those in town who gave extremely generously to our raffle which was a profound success.
